Gabriel Heinze: Former Man Utd Defender Joins Arsenal Coaching Staff
Gabriel Heinze, a former Manchester United defender, is reportedly making a surprising return to England, this time joining rivals Arsenal as part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.
The 47-year-old made 83 appearances for Manchester United over three years before departing for Real Madrid in 2007. Since then, Heinze has spent the last decade in management, with his most recent role being a year-long stint in charge of Newell’s Old Boys from November 2022 to 2023.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Heinze will be a new addition to Arsenal’s coaching setup ahead of the 2025-26 season. This move reunites him with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, as the two played together during their time at French club PSG. Heinze’s arrival follows the departure of highly-rated young coach Carlos Cuesta, who left to become Parma manager earlier this season.
